Coaching Requirements
As a coach, you are a leader and a role-model within our community. All coaches must adhere to the requirements set out by BCRSGF, GymCAN and the NCCP to ensure a safe environment for all involved.
How to get started:
13-15 years old: You can enter into Gymnastics Canada's Pre-Coach in Training (Pre-CIT) program. Pre-CIT's must still be registered as a coach with BCRSGF.
15+ years old: You can take the NCCP Gymnastics Foundations (GF) courses and become Trained at this level.
16+ years old: You can complete your GF evaluation and become a Certified GF coach. You may take the NCCP Competition 1 course and become Competition 1 trained.
19+ years: You qualify as the adult on site. There must always be someone 19 years or older on site during any class or training session.
All coaches must be registered with BCRSGF to take part in federation sanctioned courses. BCRSGF member clubs register their coaches with BCRSGF. Double check with your club to see if you have already been registered. If you are not affiliated with a club, please email bcrsgf@rhythmicsbc.com to start the registration process.
All BCRSGF coaches are required to complete the online Respect in Sport program as part of their registration requirements. You cannot be a BCRSGF registered coach or sign up for any coaching courses without it.
Select 'Gymnastics BC' from the drop down menu. There is a $12 charge to take the program.
NCCP Courses train and certify coaches in Canada. Click here to learn more.
All coaches 19 years and older must have a criminal record check done every 3 years. Check out our Criminal Record Check page for instructions on how to get yours today.

NCCP Courses
NCCP courses are taught by highly experienced NCCP Learning Facilitators and include education in coaching theory, program planning, class management as well as sport-specific technical knowledge.
After taking all the courses within a certain level, you will be considered Trained at that level. Trained coaches are able to coach their own classes provided there is a Certified adult coach (19+ years old) in the building during that class.
To become Certified, you will complete a portfolio and be guided through an evaluation process with an experienced NCCP Coach Evaluator. Certified coaches are able to coach their gymnasts at events taking place outside of their club (e.g. camps, BC Challenge Cup, invitationals, Western Regional Championships) provided the event is within their scope of practice.
